Kapeke’s Impersonator Arrested in Kampala for Scamming Promoters

A man bearing a striking resemblance to Kapeke, real name Derrick Nsubuga, has been arrested in Kampala for allegedly posing as the artist and collecting booking fees for performances that never took place.

The suspect, said to be in his mid-20s, reportedly used his near-identical look, complete with dreadlocks and streetwear style, to convince event organisers that he was the fast-rising singer. He would then secure bookings, receive payments, and fail to show up.

The scheme came to an end after Kapeke and his team collaborated with police to track down the impersonator. At the station, side-by-side videos of the two quickly made rounds online, with many stunned by their uncanny resemblance.

The incident has since sparked humor among Ugandans on social media, with some joking that “without the hair, anyone could be Kapeke.”

Despite the lighthearted reactions, the case highlights a serious issue within the entertainment industry. Promoters have been urged to verify artist bookings through official management channels to avoid falling victim to similar scams.

Under Ugandan law, impersonation is a criminal offense that can carry a sentence of up to seven years in prison if proven in court.
