Nubian Li Wins Nakawa Division Mayorship

Musician turned politician Ali Buken, popularly known as Nubian Li, has been officially declared the Mayor of Nakawa Division following a prolonged and delayed vote tallying process.

The delay had kept supporters and observers in suspense for hours, but the final announcement has now confirmed Nubian Li’s transition from music to political leadership in one of Kampala’s most politically active divisions.

Moments after the declaration, an elated Nubian Li took to his social media platforms to confirm the victory, writing, “Eventually and officially declared Mayor Nakawa!”

Nubian Li, a member of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and a close friend and longtime associate of party president Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, emerged victorious with 19121 votes after defeating incumbent mayor Paul Mugambe who garnered 14125 and Susan Zawedde on the NRM card who managed to get 11873in a closely watched contest.

The race attracted significant public attention, particularly after Mugambe failed to secure the NUP party ticket, which was instead awarded to Nubian Li. Mugambe later opted to contest as an independent candidate, but suffered a decisive defeat at the polls.

Nubian Li’s victory marks a major political milestone, not only for the artist himself but also for NUP, which continues to consolidate its influence at the local government level.

Congratulations have continued to pour in from fans, political allies, and members of the creative community as Nubian Li begins his new chapter as Nakawa Division Mayor.
