Solomon Kampala Posts on Security Operations at Bobi Wine’s Residence Amid Uganda Election Tensions

Kampala, Uganda — Tensions in Uganda have intensified following provisional presidential election results and reports from the family of opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, widely known as Bobi Wine.

On Saturday, the Electoral Commission (EC), chaired by Justice Simon Byabakama, announced provisional figures showing incumbent President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni leading with 71.88% of votes counted so far. The EC emphasized that these figures are preliminary and subject to verification as additional polling stations submit their tallies.

The National Unity Platform (NUP), Bobi Wine’s party, has publicly questioned the integrity of the election, citing reports of restricted access for opposition polling agents, internet disruptions, and security deployments around opposition leaders’ residences.

Social Media Updates from Solomon Kampala

Solomon Kampala, Bobi Wine’s son, posted updates on X (formerly Twitter) describing events at the family residence in Magere. He stated:

“Amidst the raid my father was able to escape, my mother is still currently under arrest, still nobody is allowed to enter the house. We are VERY worried for their safety!! The entire neighborhood is under curfew, nobody is allowed to move out of their houses. The military have taken over the entire area. WAKE UP UGANDA‼️ WE HAVE BEEN SLEEPING FOR TOO LONG. 40 years under an illegitimate rebel with an unquenchable thirst for power as our president. THIS WILL ONLY END WHEN THE PEOPLE STAND UP FOR THEMSELVES IN PROTEST. NO ONE CAN HELP US BUT OURSELVES‼️”@kampala_solomon

In another post, he provided additional context:

“Still have not yet heard from my father and National Unity Platform Presidential candidate @HEBobiwine and my mother Barbara Kyagulanyi. Police and Military have cornered every inch of our land at home, no one is allowed to move into the residence to see if they are there. We are VERY worried for their safety!!”@kampala_solomon

Solomon also highlighted the father’s escape in a separate message:

“President Kyagulanyi escaped the raid too.”@kampala_solomon

These posts have circulated widely and drawn both national and international attention. They reflect the opposition’s perspective on the security situation around the residence during the post-election period.

Government Response

Ugandan security agencies have denied allegations of abduction or siege. Police and military officials stated that their deployments around Bobi Wine’s residence were precautionary measures intended to maintain public order. Authorities also described social media claims as misleading and cautioned against spreading unverified information.

Election Context

President Museveni, in power since 1986, is seeking a seventh term. Reports indicate that the electoral period included internet disruptions, restricted media access in certain districts, and deployment of security personnel. Independent observers have emphasized the need for transparency and verification of results from all polling stations.

Opposition leaders have rejected the provisional results and are calling for verification through formal electoral channels.

Outlook

The situation remains fluid. Independent verification of claims regarding security operations at Bobi Wine’s residence and the safety of his family is currently limited. Both government authorities and opposition figures continue to present differing narratives, highlighting the importance of impartial reporting and careful verification of all information.
