When asked about Tracey Melon—widely regarded as one of the most consistent breakout artists of the past year—Bebe Cool admitted that he was unfamiliar with her.
“I don’t know this artist, but I keep hearing the name Tracey Melon. I don’t know the artist, but I know the name,” he said.
The comment left many fans surprised, particularly given Tracey Melon’s impressive momentum over the past year. On social media, music lovers questioned how an artist with such strong digital numbers could still fly under the radar of an industry veteran.
Tracey Melon has enjoyed a remarkable run, releasing hit songs including “Ogenda Kukilaba,” “Tovayo,” and “Kakana.” Each of the tracks has surpassed one million views on YouTube, solidifying her position as one of Uganda’s most promising female voices.
While remarks of this nature often ignite heated responses in the entertainment industry, Tracey Melon chose a path defined by humility, self-awareness, and quiet confidence.
Instead of clapping back, the singer expressed gratitude and acknowledged the need to strengthen her personal brand.
“Thank you so much for having recognized Tracey Melon this year. I am grateful, thank you very much,” she said.
“I am going to work more on people getting to know me because many people know the songs but don’t know the name. Sometimes they know the name but not the face. So I am really working on putting a face to the name.”
