Rickman Manrick Credits Sheila Gashumba for Shaping His Music Career
Ugandan sensational rapper Rickman Manrick has publicly recognized media personality Sheila Gashumba for her pivotal role in guiding his music journey. He praised her mentorship, belief in his talent, and the behind-the-scenes influence she provided during his formative years in the industry.
Speaking candidly, Rickman revealed that Sheila motivated him to push creatively at a time when he was still finding his footing. She consistently affirmed his abilities, viewing him not just as a musician, but as a creative with depth and vision.
“She did a lot for my music,” Rickman shared. “She took me to big stages like Blankets & Wine and Roast and Rhyme. She always told me I wasn’t just a talented musician, but a creative.”
For Rickman, performing at Blankets & Wine was a defining moment. Standing on such a prestigious stage reaffirmed his commitment to authenticity over flashiness. He credited Sheila with preparing him for these milestones—from wardrobe choices to understanding how to carry himself professionally—ensuring he was ready to make an impression.
“She made sure I reached those big stages. She tried, and she did her best,” he said, giving her “her flowers” for the constant motivation.
Rickman was also open about their creative differences, acknowledging that every artist has their own vision. While Sheila encouraged a broader, more commercial appeal, Rickman aspired to a “J. Cole kind of artist”—simple, grounded, and introspective.
“You can’t change someone unless they want to change,” he added. “But she did a wonderful job. The direction she put me in made me wanted and led me to these stages. There are big artists in Uganda who haven’t had such opportunities.”
Sheila Gashumba later reshared Rickman’s remarks on her social media, responding warmly with a brief note of appreciation: “Thank you for the kind words.” The exchange highlighted mutual respect and the impact of mentorship in Uganda’s entertainment scene.
