Allan Okello Set to Join Young Africans in Shs2bn Deal
Allan Okello is on the verge of completing a high-profile transfer to Tanzania Premier League giants Young Africans SC, with the Uganda Cranes playmaker set to undergo a medical examination as the final step of the deal. Sources in Dar es Salaam indicate that the medical will be conducted in Zanzibar as Young Africans finalize paperwork for the move.

The former KCCA FC, Paradou AC, and Vipers SC midfielder is believed to be joining Yanga in a deal valued between UGX 1 billion and UGX 2 billion, depending on various contractual clauses. Okello is also expected to receive a signing-on fee of about USD 100,000 (approximately UGX 360 million), highlighting the club’s strong investment in the talented playmaker.
Young Africans officially unveiled Okello on Monday evening, rolling out the red carpet for the Ugandan international at their Jangwani headquarters. Announcing his arrival on social media, the club declared, “Star Boy has arrived,” as fans welcomed him into the famous green and yellow colors.
Okello’s arrival is expected to significantly boost Yanga’s attacking options, adding creativity and competition to a frontline that already features prolific forwards Clement Mzize and Prince Dube, who have each scored 14 goals this season. His technical ability, vision, and dead-ball expertise make him a valuable addition to the squad.
The move will also see Okello link up with fellow Uganda Cranes midfielder Khalid Aucho, who is already an established figure at the Tanzanian powerhouse. Their partnership is expected to strengthen Yanga’s midfield balance, particularly in high-pressure domestic and continental matches.

Young Africans are one of Africa’s most successful football clubs, having won more than 32 Tanzanian Premier League titles and consistently competing in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup. They play their home matches at the 60,000-capacity Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, offering Okello a chance to perform on one of the biggest stages in East African football.
For Vipers SC, the transfer goes down as the second-most expensive sale in the club’s history, only surpassed by Farouk Miya’s move to Standard Liège in 2016. For Okello, the move represents a major career step, providing an opportunity to reassert himself at the highest level and potentially attract further interest from clubs beyond the region.
